October is here, and for the team at DesignThink, that means it’s time to get ready to hit the pavement, the trail, or the sidewalks to show our support for the fight against childhood cancer. (Ped)al4Cam is an event held by local charity Cure4Cam that combines mountain biking, road cycling and walking into a single event to raise awareness that there is still much to be learned about treating children with cancer. A common misconception exists that what is learned by treating adults applies directly to treating children. For any parent with a child battling cancer, they know that this is not normally the case. Cure4Cam is committed to furthering research focused on treating childhood cancers.
This will be DesignThink’s 4th year sponsoring the event. DT team members have been busy helping organize the routes, preparing the signage, recruiting sponsors, designing tee shirts, spreading the word, and generally sharing the stress of making sure 200 people have a great day outside for a truly noble cause.
Last year’s turnout was fantastic with just under 200 riders. This year adds a 2-mile fun walk with activities to keep those of us without wheels entertained while we support the fight. Mountain rides range from a 5-mile guided intro to mountain biking to a grueling 15-mile ride through Marsh Creek State Park. Road rides include a challenging 20-mile loop and a 45-mile “lung buster” on the scenic back roads of Chester County. All rides and the walk are well marked and supported by volunteers providing help, encouragement and refreshments along the way. The event starts and ends at the Eagleview Town Center in Exton, PA during their Fall Fest celebration. Food and craft vendors will be on hand for refreshments and some casual shopping after the ride with plenty of live music to set the mood for a relaxing afternoon. There’s truly something for everyone at the (Ped)al4Cam.
